Why MSA

Every teenager experiences the moment when they have to make their own decisions. One of them is choosing the path they want to follow, so here I am explaining to you why I want to study Architecture at the Manchester School of Architecture. Firstly, MSA has impressed me by the great number of architects it educated, such as Norman Foster, and due to the fact that it is ranked among the best architecture courses in UK. I think that Manchester is the vibrant, multicultural and viable city which suits me and where I will manage to broaden my horizons and develop my creativity, shape my personality and enhance my skills. Moreover, my awareness and expertise in architectural domain will grow as I will benefit from both institutions’ resources, MMU and the University of Manchester.
One project that I have visited and impressed me deeply was the  L’Oceanografic in the east of the city Valencia, Spain. It is the largest complex of this type including many intriguing structures, but the one which caught my eye was the Main Entry Building designed by Felix Candela. In my view, it closely resembles Zaha Hadid’s curves and instils purity due to its white roof which has a fascinating shape that can be confused with some waves. Not only does the roof, which is like the sea foam, reflect the marine area, but also the blue windows which represent the ocean itself.
Antonio Gaudi is by far my favourite architect and succeeds in inspiring me every time I see his works. His style reveals unique and distinctive forms of art. As I see it, Gaudi is an example for every single architect for the reason that his inspiration came from essential elements which define our humanity such as nature and religion. All his designs are part of an architectural breakthrough, but the construction which aroused my interest was Sagrada Familia. I had the opportunity to enter it and while I was analysing every detail, my mind was performing an endless monologue for Gaudi’s fantasy and originality which created these masterpieces well thought of in architecture.
Saint Basil’s Cathedral is an alluring and remarkable work of art which I want to see in the near future. It is an odd building due to its design which has no similarity in Russian architecture and perhaps this is the reason why it thrills me so much.  I think that those red bricks on which shapes of vivid colours are placed, are the symbol of a bonfire flame rising into the sky and they hide an equally exciting interior.

I hope my portfolio was successful in displaying my skills and passion for architecture. I strongly believe that as a student at the MSA I would be able to further develop my knowledge and the strong education you offer me would allow me to do this.
